- עַרְטֵלch. sam(ערטלto strip, denude). Targ. 1 Chr. 10:8 (h. text פשט). Ithpa. אִתְעַרְטֵיל to be stripped; to uncover ones self. Targ. Y. Gen. 3:7. Targ. Y. Ex. 7:9 כד איתע׳ when it (the serpent) was stripped (of its limbs, v. Targ. Y. Gen. 3:14, Gen. R. s. 20). Targ. Hab. 2:16 (h. text הערל).(Yalk. Sam. 162 (ref. to 2 Sam. 22:37) לא ירחבון ולא ידהפון ולא יִתְעַרְטְלוּן they (my joints) did not widen (become loose), did not slip, nor did they become sore; Midr. Till. to Ps. 18:37 ולא יתערפלון nor did they swell (?); perh. to be read: יתערסלון, v. עִרְסֵל.
